There is an online ‘urban’ dictionary. All the definitions are written by people…ordinary people. Not scholars, or professors etc. You and I can submit our very own definition of any word.
Now there’s a new twist on an old activity. Since the beginning, it has been done… submitting
our own definitions to God’s Word. We
arrogantly decide what a word should mean. We attempt to make it fit us, rather than
shaping our lives to fit what God’s Word means.
We have changed the meaning of a lot of our English
words. We have made them to mean
something entirely different than they originally meant. We learn the new
meanings and begin to use them in that context.
But make no mistake.
We will never change one single Word of God. Our culture does not change Him. His Word stands. What He meant by what He said will never ever
change. No matter how many new ways you
twist it and misuse it. His Word
stands.
We are wise to know Him
well enough to understand His communication to us. Wiser still to benefit from His Holy Spirit
Who helps and teaches us all things.
